Kiran Chetry, who was born August 26, 1974 in Kathmandu, Nepal, grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland where she attended Montgomery Blair High School. Kiran was a member of the swim team, pom squad and the student government. Kiran attended the UoM University of Maryland and graduated with a BA degree in Broadcast Journalism. Kiran was a member of the Alpha Pi chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Chetry got her first break in 1995 when she joined “News 21” in Rockville, Maryland. She then got a job as a main anchor and health news reported at WICU-TV and moved to Erie, Pennsylvania. While working for WICU-TV, Kiran Chetry met primetime news anchor Chris Knowles and started dating. During this time, Kiran has dealt with issues like teen smoking and reported it on the series “Young and Hooked.” In 1997, Kiran’s work for this report won her a “Best Enterprise Reporting Award” from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

In 1999, Kiran Chetry moved to Sacramento, California to work for KXTV as a reporter and morning anchor. In March 8, 2001, Chetry debuted as a general reported for “Fox News Channel”, featuring a story about eating ice cream. In 2002, the Association of Nepalis in the Americas honored Kiran with a Making our Mark Award. While at Fox, Chetry worked as a rotating anchor for the morning news program “Fox & Friends First” and “Fox News Live.” By late 2005, Kiran was already working as a regular co-anchor for “Fox & Friends Weekend.”

Kiran and her husband Chris Knowles welcomed a daughter Maya Rose in February 2006 and a son Christopher in April 2008. Chetry ranked #3 in Maxim Magazine’s Top 10 TV’s Sexiest News Anchors, dubbed the world’s second sexiest female anchor and “America’s sexiest female anchor.” Kiran Chetry was also featured on a CNN story entitled “Who’s Hot to You? Why You Can’t Look Away,” wherein medical anchor Elizabeth Cohen demonstrated how people respond to physical beauty and used Kiran’s photo to demonstrate the study.

In early 2007, Kiran Chetry left Fox network and within an hour of being unemployed, CNN offered Kiran a job as a correspondent and anchor, which Chetry accepted. On February 16, 2007, she worked as a co-host for “American Morning” and anchored the “Anderson Cooper 360” show that evening. By April 2007, Kiran (alongside John Roberts) has become regular co-anchors for American Morning, replacing Soledad O’Brien and Miles O’Brien.

Aside from her duties on TV, Kiran Chetry also co-hosted CNN’s 2007 YouTube Democratic debate and the CNN Election Center analysis in January 2008. She also worked as the party correspondent for CNN’s New Year celebration, “2008 New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper.”
